Fun Birthday Party Ideas for Teen Boys

Backyard Campout

If your teenage boy loves the great outdoors, consider hosting a backyard campout.  This is not only a great way to enjoy the fresh air but will make a awesome memory.  Have him and his guests set up a tent to sleep under the stars and serve smores.  Next, take turns telling ghost stories around a real fire or one made of flashlights.

Build a fort out of sticks, or make it into a competition using teams. Or play some fun teen party games. In addition, if time allows, consider turning it into a hiking party and go on an adventure!

Escape Room Party

It’s super simple, just download and print out the game cards and accessories, follow the game instructions and you are ready to go! The kids will love it, what is more fun than transforming your living room into your very own custom Escape Room!

Check out this one called Rebel Revolt, which is perfect for a teen party$29, Lock Paper Scissors.

Paintball Party

Paintball has become a popular activity over the years.  If the birthday guy and his crew are into it, it would make a terrific theme for a party. Firstly, ensure everyone has the equipment needed.  Secondly, find a location where it is allowed and safe.  Thirdly, get a game going and finally, have a blast!  A cake that looks like it was hit with paint balls would tie it all together nicely.

Minute to Win It Party

Not only is this theme a great way to include everyone, but it is also an awesome choice for any teen who likes a little competition.  Minute to Win It is a game show where contestants participate in 60-second challenges using items that are found around the home.  Place guests into teams and have them come up with a team name and perform a cheer.  Then have the group try different challenges while cheering each other on.  It will surely be a fun time!

Fear Factor Party

Another popular show of the past has been Fear Factor.  This theme could encompass both physical and mental challenges for the birthday boy and his friends.  To summarize, see who is the bravest by setting up stations to test it.   For example, have guests reach into a mystery box to guess what they are touching or do a taste testing of baby food. You could also see who can keep their feet in ice cold water the longest.  Chose activities that are safe and age appropriate and face your fears!

Olympics themed party

Whether in the winter or summer, the Olympics is an exciting event to watch!  It also makes a mighty neat theme!  Create your own Olympic rings to display while making an Olympic torch for the birthday boy to carry in.  Have guests pick a country they want to represent as they compete in Olympic inspired activities.  For instance, relay race around the backyard passing batons, see who can throw a shot put the farthest and maybe even have athletes create their own gymnastics routines.  Any way, this will be a party that will unite everyone and be fun!

Floor is Lava Party

The Floor is Lava has been a childhood game for many, but why not make it a bit more challenging?  Create an obstacle course inside or in the back yard.  You could not only work as a team but you could also time individuals and see who can make it to the end without getting touched by the “lava.” A great way to end this party is with chocolate lava cake.

Sports themed Party

A sports theme birthday party is perfect for any athlete.  Chose to focus on their favorite sport or showcase them all.  Organize a friendly game of soccer or ball hockey while enjoying something from the bbq.  Serve a cake shaped like a football and decorate with sports team logos for added sportiness!

STEM Soiree

Another awesome theme is STEM!  A party that revolves around science, technology, engineering and mathematics after all will be ideal for any kiddo who wants to learn!  Have guests and the birthday boy build their own tunnel system using cardboard tubes and tape and see if they can get a pom pom from point A to B.  Building with Lego or creating their own Slime are also fun STEM activities.  Whatever you chose will excited these teenage scientists!

Backyard Movie Night

If he is a movie buff than a backyard movie night would be awesome!  Invitations could be movie ticket stubs and the cake could be shaped like a old school projector.  Bring the TV outside or set up a sheet to project a movie on. For extra ambiance, place pillows and other seating in front for a cozy setting.  Have popcorn, pretzels, chocolate and pop available during the show too.  If the weather will not cooperate, don’t fret of course! Set up the theatre in your living room or basement.  It will be like your own personal movie theatre!

Games Night

Some teens like an old fashioned board game night, so why not make it their birthday theme?  Set up different games around the room for guests to enjoy or have everyone play the same game if it allows many players.  Perhaps card games are more of a favorite or set up a chess or checkers tournament.  Order pizza and play!  No one will be bored during a board game party.

Wet and Wild

During the warmer months a way to cool down is a great choice for a theme!  Do you have a pool? If so, perfect, throw a pool party. If not, think of other ways to have a wet and wild party.  For example, get a slip n slide out where everyone takes turns sliding down the lawn.  Later, fill up water balloons and water guns and have a battle!  Even teens can’t resist the fun of a water fight.

Video Games

Some teens are all about the video games! As a matter of fact, a video game party could take place in person or all online.  There are many multiplayer games out there that friends can join in on from their own homes.  If you chose to do this, maybe drop off a gaming pack with some snacks to enjoy while playing.  If doing it in person, have guests take turns playing levels and cheering each other on.

Trivia Night

Test everyone’s knowledge during a trivia night themed birthday party!  Purchase a age appropriate game or make up your own questions.  If he is into sports have a sports theme trivia night or make it all about the city you live in or the TV shows he watches.   Divide the guests into teams and see who knows the most!
